The Popponesset Water Stewardship Alliance was formed in 2021 with the goal of better understanding the changing environmental conditions along the Nantucket Sound coastline and if these changes could be related to the same water quality issues impacting Cape Cod's embayments.
In collaboration with local environmental organizations and research institutions throughout the United States, the group has been studying the impacts of invasive seaweed, periodic jellyfish blooms, and anthropogenic nutrient enrichment on coastal Nantucket Sound's waters.
